10th November 2022 – Charity Sparkle Party Fashion Show for Wessex Cancer Trust

Some of our group members took part in the Wessex Cancer Trust Sparkle Party Fashion Show which was attended and watched by around 180 ticketed guests – mainly family and friends of the models. Some of our group were very brace and modelled on the catwalk and others helped as volunteers, helping the models to get ready or checking in guests and serving them with a glass of prosecco.

There were stallholders selling items perfect for christmas presents including cakes and biscuits, gin, clothes and handbags, christmas wreaths, wooden lighted and tree decorations, disney character keyrings, light-bottles, jewellery and shortbread to name a few.

The clothes, shoes and accessories were provided by New Look in Eastleigh and the models had their hair and makeup done if they wanted to.

Sam Fraser from the local BBC news and weather was the compere for the fashion show and she interviewed each model as they each took a stroll down the catwalk to tremendous applause from the audience. They all looked absolutely amazing on the catwalk and were buzzing afterwards!

A truly memorable evening for everyone with lots of money being raised for a very worthy local charity who supports cancer patients, their families and loved ones through a variety of talking and touch therapies.

Have a look at their website if you would like to receive some support or to fundraise for them.

19th July 2022 – An invitation to a garden in Chandlers Ford

We were all delighted to be invited along to one of member’s gardens for an evening of drinks and nibbles, chat and laughter.

The day was one of the hottest of the year so far but thankfully by the evening, the temperatures had cooled, but only slightly. We all co-ordinated beforehand what food and drink we would bring and the amount of food that arrived was huge! I think we’d overdone the “nibbles” a little bit. We had savoury and sweet, hot and cold, and our host had laid on a gazebo with tables and chairs for all of us.

Around 20 of us arrived to enjoy an incredible evening, looking around our host’s beautiful garden, and being able to catch up with each other properly.

We celebrated the “end of treatment” for a couple of our ladies who had brought a bottle of champagne along. They really were glad to have got through the grueling treatment and were keen to start the next stage of their lives, post cancer. We all congratulated them and wished them well on their road to recovery.

We shared recipes for delicious cheesy bites and sticky cocktail sausages which were all devoured on the night!

As the sun went down, we had candles and fairy lights twinkling in the garden and even though we had made a dent in the amount of food, there was still a little room for puddings, and then we filled our doggy bags to take home what was left.

We all helped to clear away the chairs and tables and helped our host to clear up before lifts and taxis arrived to take us home.

We would like to thank our host so very much for allowing us to visit her beautiful garden and for hosting a really enjoyable evening. We are already planning a date for next year!

Date: Tuesday 19 July 2022

17th June 2022 – Longstock Water Gardens and Leckford Farm Cafe

The weather was exceptional for our return visit to the Longstock Water Gardens! We really couldn’t have chosen a better summer’s day!

We arrived at mid-day and after donning our hats and suncream, we had a brief history of the gardens from the head gardener, before being left to wander around at our own pace.

The plants were all in flower and the lush greenery made us feel like we were on holiday, in another country.  There were benches dotted around to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds, and a few areas of shade to get out of the heat.

When it was time to head to the Café for our pre-ordered cream teas, we all bundled into our cars for the very hot and humid 5 minute drive to the Leckford Farm Estate Café.

With some of our group immuno-suppressed from their chemotherapy treatment, we had arranged with the Leckford Farm Estate Café to have our cream teas in an outdoor shaded garden area, at picnic tables, away from the other café diners. And we could make as much noise as we wanted without fear of upsetting other customers.

The shade from the beautiful big old oak trees gave us some respite from the heat, and with help from the Cafe waiters and waitresses, we sat down to gorgeous freshly baked plain, cheese and fruit scones with jam and cream and butter as appropriate. Our pre-ordered Teas and coffees arrived too.

After a leisurely cream tea with lots of chatter, it was time to head home for some of us, and for others a chance to look around the Leckford Estate Farm Shop selling lots of local produce and the Leckford Estate Garden Centre with lots of plants and gift ideas.

There was also another garden area to look around in the grounds with a long shady planted tunnel and by this time, we were all feeling pretty exhausted.

A truly memorable day and we hope to return again next year.
