We will be joined by Pauline Rafferty from Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Charity (Cardiac Rehab). She will talk to us about the Cancer Rehab exercise programme.
Cardiac Rehab provides specialist exercise programmes to residents of Hampshire and Surrey. The initial focus of Cardiac Rehab was to reduce the risk of people developing heart disease and support those who had heart disease or heart operations. That was back in 1976 when the programme started. Over the years they have widened the scope to Pulmonary Rehab, frailty and balance problems and in 2022 they introduced a Long covid rehab programme. They have been operating since 1976 and had their own centre built in 1997 which has been operating for 26 years.
Last year they have been working with the NHS and have started a Cancer Pre-Hab programme with patient referrals from Health Care Professionals. In parallel they are promoting a Cancer Rehabilitation programme to run along side other rehabilitation and preventative programmes. There are “Cancer Rehab level 4 exercise specialists” in the instructor team so have the experience to safely support Cancer patients.
